How does device sync work?

By default, your conversations stay on the device where you created them. They do not automatically appear when you sign in elsewhere. Turn on sync to access them on your other devices.

When you enable sync, your conversations are stored encrypted on Canadian servers and appear when you sign in to Vinci on the web and in the mobile app.

Turn sync on

On the web (Vinci Chat):

1. Click your avatar in the top right and open Account & settings.
2. Go to the Data controls tab.
3. Find Sync and toggle it on.

On your phone (Vinci Mobile):

1. Tap Settings at the bottom of the screen.
2. Under Data controls, find Sync across devices.
3. Tap the toggle to turn it on and confirm if prompted.

Turning sync on uploads the conversations already on that device, so your existing history there becomes available on your other devices too. Chats sitting on a different device stay where they are until you turn sync on there as well.

What syncs

Device sync covers your conversations in the web app and the mobile app.

• Conversation history: chats you start on the web appear on your phone, and the other way round, once sync is on in both places.

What does not sync

• Memories: the web app and the mobile app keep separate sets. A memory you save on the web does not appear on your phone, and one you save on your phone does not appear on the web. On the web, your memories are saved to your account whenever you are signed in, whether or not sync is on.
• Custom instructions: these stay in the browser where you set them. They are not sent to our servers and do not carry to another browser, device, or the mobile app.
• Vinci Work (desktop): the sessions you run there stay on that computer. They do not appear on the web or your phone, and your synced chats do not appear in Vinci Work.

Turning sync off deletes your synced chats

Sync is opt-in and you can turn it off again, but doing so deletes every conversation saved to your account. Vinci asks you to type the word delete to confirm, because this cannot be undone.

Chats still held on the device in front of you stay on that device. Anything that lived only in your account — a chat you started on a phone you no longer have, for example — goes with it.

Before you turn sync off, make sure anything you want to keep is on a device you still have. Afterwards, new chats stay on the device where you create them.

To sign in on another device, use the same email and password. If you use social sign-in with Google or GitHub, use the same method you used to create the account.
