How does device sync work?
By default, your conversations stay on the device where you created them. They do not automatically appear when you sign in elsewhere. Turn on sync to access them everywhere.
When you enable sync, your conversations and memories are stored encrypted on Canadian servers and automatically appear on every device where you sign in to Vinci: web, mobile, and Vinci Work.
Turn sync on
On the web (Vinci Chat):
- Click your avatar in the top right and open Account & settings.
- Go to the Data controls tab.
- Find Sync and toggle it on.
On your phone (Vinci Mobile):
- Tap Settings at the bottom of the screen.
- Under Data controls, find Sync across devices.
- Tap the toggle to turn it on and confirm if prompted.
On desktop (Vinci Work):
- Press Cmd/Ctrl+K and search for "sync," or navigate to Preferences.
- Find the sync option and enable it.
What syncs
When you turn on device sync:
- Conversation history: chats from any device appear on your other devices.
- Memories: facts you have told Vinci to remember, or that Vinci detected and saved, are available everywhere.
- Custom instructions: standing instructions you set sync and apply on all devices.
Chats from before you enabled sync remain on the device where they happened; sync applies going forward.
Control sync
Device sync is opt-in and can be turned off again. Future chats go back to your device only. Your local history stays on your device, while past synced conversations remain on the servers until you delete them manually.
To sign in on another device, use the same email and password. If you use social sign-in with Google or GitHub, use the same method you used to create the account.
